Insa Corporation: A Unanimous Choice for Network Security and Storage

Mario Bruketa, CEO; Russ Doucet, CTO, Insa CorporationMario Bruketa, CEO; Russ Doucet, CTO From global, state-funded hacking to ransomware attacks, cyber threats are a growing concern for public and private enterprises worldwide. While the proliferation of digitalization within the public sector has improved customer service and public engagement, it has unintentionally expanded the attack surface leaving state and local governments more vulnerable than ever before.

To make matters worse, technology plays the role of a double-edged sword in this situation. On the one hand, we have the private and public sectors adopting digital technologies including Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications, and unified communications such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and video conferencing to be competitive and to better serve their target audience. On the other hand, we have cyber criminals adopting everything from machine learning and agile development to sophisticated malware to create a perfect storm of attacks.

Effectively defending against cyber threats in this environment requires the security teams of both government agencies and commercial enterprises to work smarter rather than harder. A combination of tools, strategy, automation, and skilled professionals is needed to monitor the entire risk environment. It’s also imperative to automate as many critical processes as possible, to allow human resources to focus on higher-order analysis and response. With the recent COVID-19 outbreak, enterprises have needed to dramatically increase secure remote work options, which has caused performance and scale challenges.

Enter INSA Corporation

INSA Corporation, founded in 2002, is a privately held IT firm specializing in network security and high-end storage and focused in Central and Eastern Canada. INSA is a Fortinet Platinum Partner and one of the largest Fortinet resellers in Canada with over a hundred clients spanning across education, government, and enterprise.

“We help organizations seeking to secure their networks from increasingly sophisticated attacks, all while supporting Fortinet’s mission to enhance global security. Our skills and experience can help you leverage the incredible Fortinet product suite to maximum effectiveness,” mentions Russ Doucet, CTO.

The company drove the first Fortinet application in the Canadian Government over a decade ago, and has continued with the deployment of high performance, scalable, and secure network solutions across most government departments. With its ability to handle a wide array of projects and maximize the effectiveness of its clients’ security investment, INSA has been recognized as the Canadian Fortinet Partner of the Year for 2019.

Enabling Security through Best-of-Breed Product Suites

INSA helps enterprises understand the length of the attack chain and how vulnerabilities in each of its links can compromise their network security. They unify an organization’s security architecture by simplifying security operations while providing real-time, multilayered threat response. The company leverages its industry experience and expertise to secure client’s critical infrastructure through the deployment of Fortinet and other best-of-breed product suites. INSA not only mitigates the intricate process of deploying security solutions and platforms but also trains its clients to ensure operational success. INSA is a Fortinet Authorized Training Centre (ATC).

We work hard to build and maintain close relationships with our clients and partners. We can effectively engage and succeed in today’s evolving security environment due to Fortinet and INSA’s symbiotic relationship and the expertise we bring to the table

INSA is the go-to service provider for organizations that are rapidly adopting digital innovation to accelerate business success. By leveraging the Fortinet Security Fabric for enterprises, the company successfully helps organizations cope with the growing attack surfaces, threats, infrastructure complexity, and regulatory landscape. With INSA’s support, some of the most common initiatives—such as moving applications and workflows to the cloud, deploying Internet-of-Things (IoT) on a corporate network, and expanding an organization’s footprint to new branch locations— can be completed without compromising security.

Fortinet has evolved into a multi-faceted platform that allows seamless integration with solutions from other vendors. There are many APIs which can be integrated with the Fortinet Security Fabric which allow the client to actively collect and share threat and mitigation information across platforms to improve intelligence, awareness, and response. INSA goes above and beyond to ensure the successful integration of APIs and to orchestrate a coordinated rapid threat response to thwart attacks. Clients are provided broad visibility across their environment and can easily and effectively manage security and network operations.

Bridging the Skill Gap

To operate security platforms, organizations need talent at their disposal. A study conducted by (ISC)2, a non-profit organization specializing in the training and certification of cybersecurity professionals, shows that the global shortage of cybersecurity professionals surpassed four million. The study also reveals that 80 percent of companies deal with a lack of experienced cybersecurity professionals within their organization.

INSA addresses the skill shortage in critical areas, including identifying, patching, and updating vulnerable systems. INSA engineers maintain high levels of security clearance allowing them to work in public agencies. They have obtained top security clearance from the Canadian Federal Government to undertake projects that threaten national security.

The company’s technical staff is certified through the Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) program. Their knowledge of network security design, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex networks enables them to support large client deployments inside government departments. “We strongly believe that it is our staff’s quality and ability that is our greatest asset. Our team builds and maintains close relationships with our clients and partners. As a boutique firm, we can quickly and effectively deliver best-in-class products and support,” states Greg MacDonell, VP, Federal Government Sales.
The technical team of INSA is among 122 Fortinet Partner Engineers, hand-picked from the top Fortinet Resellers in Canada. They were invited to an annual technical learning event conducted by Fortinet: the NSE Xperts Academy. The event involves long days of instructor-led and hands-on training workshops featuring deep dives on a variety of topics including but not limited to brand new (sometimes unreleased) information, products, and features. During the event, the INSA team received four awards for their demonstrated technical expertise.

INSA’s technical expertise can be understood from a recent client engagement deploying an Enterprise Perimeter Security (EPS) solution. INSA designed, built, tested, and implemented an enterprise perimeter security solution for extensive data centre protection. This integrated multi-vendor solution performs complex content inspection, including SSL/TLS decryption on traffic volumes over 100Gbps, with hundreds of thousands of users executing demanding loads. The EPS solution delivered advanced security capabilities, high resiliency, and multi-site central management capabilities and was built to demanding specifications including high speed and low latency. The solution can be scaled from 10Gbps up to 150Gbps. Such an advanced security solution for a data centre had not been deployed in Canada before INSA’s solution in 2019.

A Clear-Cut Methodology

INSA brings all its offerings together via a well-defined methodology and client servicing strategy. Every client engagement begins with defining the problem statement and the way it impacts business. “It’s a unique challenge because the focus areas of client teams are different. It’s difficult for them to collaborate,” mentions Garry Sekhon, VP, Enterprise and Education Sales. INSA works to unify different client visions by bringing a holistic view from the technology point of view. Different aspects of a solution are brought together to meet requirements. The company spends a great deal of time exploring the client’s achievements in terms of security, and what they envision for securing their assets and workflows.

"We help organizations seeking to secure their networks from increasingly sophisticated attacks, all while supporting Fortinet’s mission to enhance global security. Our skills and experience can help you leverage the incredible Fortinet product suite to maximum effectiveness"

In addition to deployments and implementations, INSA also delivers customized end-user training and formal Fortinet certified curriculum training through its authorized training centre. INSA submits frequent feedback from clients on Fortinet’s products, helping Fortinet to improve its features and functionalities. For that reason, Russ Doucet says, “We work hard to build and maintain close relationships with our clients and partners. We can effectively engage and succeed in today’s evolving security environment due to Fortinet and INSA’s symbiotic relationship and the expertise we bring to the table.”

Today, the company serves critical government agencies and commercial enterprises whose systems are used by more than 40000 users. Moving forward, the company plans to strengthen its team and expand its clientele. “We will be moving into a larger premises this year to support our expansion plans. The new location will be more of a collaborative space with more extensive labs and a deeper breadth of solutions so we can work with clients and partners. We will also be investing time and resources to make this workspace into a comprehensive training facility. These steps will enable the direction we want to go, and we are very excited about this,” concludes Doucet.
